Founders’ Stories: Humble Beginnings to Building Big Dreams

  • by

Hubware, the first construction-focused online marketplace in the Philippines, is stepping into another level through the recent partnership announcement with BuildMart PH Technologies Inc.

But before this giant leap, let’s look at the existing management team that led Hubware to its current position. Together, they weren’t just partners; they were architects and builders.

Jon Baron, Founder and CEO of Hubware Corporation, evolves from high school sales to digital empire, fusing entrepreneurial grit with golf course precision in both business and life.

JON BARON

Jon Baron, Founder and CEO of Hubware Corporation, forged his entrepreneurial spirit in the furnace of manual labor. From selling “ice buko” in high school to office supplies sales in college, all while managing his studies, he honed his hustle and confidence, brick by digital brick. He also tried the unique sales experience through MLM or Networking even enhancing his sales experience.  These weren’t just teenage gigs; they were the mortar binding his future empire.

In 2005, Jon Baron started his entry into the construction world through hollow block fabrication and trading. He wasn’t afraid to roll up his sleeves, mastering every role from laborer, to truck driver and business owner. This wasn’t just a business; it was a boot camp, molding him into a construction king. His keen eye for market gaps led him to open a hardware store in 2009, a springboard to full-fledged contracting by 2013. With each project completed, his vision grew, stretching beyond brick and mortar.

In 2018, he saw the construction industry yearning for a digital revolution. He launched Hubware, a construction tech platform to start digitizing transactions between hardware stores and contractors – bootstrapping to bring his vision into reality.

But while some might picture a CEO buried in spreadsheets, Jon also finds solace on a different kind of green – the golf course. A champion golfer, his precision on the fairway mirrors his sharp business acumen. He’s a force to be reckoned with, both on the course and in the boardroom.

Marika Laciste, Co-founder and COO of Hubware Corporation, broke barriers to reshape construction tech with Hubware.

MARIKA LACISTE

Breaking barriers and stereotypes, Marika Laciste, Co-founder and COO of Hubware Corporation , started her humble beginnings in college as a full academic scholar, graduating cum laude while balancing studies with a side gig role as a research assistant to pay for her allowance.

No stranger to climbing mountains, Marika started navigating the corporate world in 2014 honing her knowledge and experience in business development, product management,  and marketing. Traveling the country and overseas to build businesses for one of the leading lighting and electrical companies in the Philippines, she experienced the pain points of a traditional industry.

Drawn by the potential of Hubware and the shared purpose with Jon, she jumped headfirst into the startup world in 2021. Marika thrives in the heart of the action, where vision meets execution. This isn’t your typical COO story; it’s a tale of a young, sharp strategist who joined forces with a seasoned construction visionary, Jon, to transform Hubware into a promising construction tech startup.

Marika laid the blueprints for Hubware’s pivot into its current positioning in the tech arena; empowering diverse teams to push boundaries and chase audacious goals.
